Patent Leather

Patent Leather

In the Skillshare class I am taking we are covering how to create a patent leather look, suede look, and sequins look in watercolor.

Here is my first attempt at a patent leather shoe. The most important part are the highlights! That’s what really makes them look shiny. In watercolor white is usually the white of the paper. So, you need to make sure to paint around that area (and don’t forget, like I did) or possibly use a mask. If you do forget you can go back in when it’s dry and add white highlights with white gouache.

I’m loving watercolors. They are a lot more versatile and forgiving than you might think.

Tomorrow suede!
